Nationwide Platforms chooses Scania for lower operating costs, reliability and DVS compliance.
Lutterworth, Leicestershire based Nationwide Platforms (a LOXAM company) has turned to Keltruck to equip its fleet with Scania vehicles.
The UK’s largest provider of powered access equipment has taken delivery of 69 Scania vehicles. Comprising a mix of 19 rigids and 50 tractor units, these are the first Scania vehicles to be operated by the company.
The impressive UK fleet was supplied by Tony Biddlestone, Account Manager.
Commenting on the deal Tony said:
Since the start of discussions with Nationwide Platforms back in 2018 the relationship between all parties has grown to become one of great trust and friendship.
From the outset pricing was always there in background but safety, along with the latest in legislation, was at the forefront of NP’s tender. Due to the range of options that the Scania modular build system offers, we were able to offer all requirements from factory, without the involvement of any third party suppliers.
Direct Vision was one of the topics rightly seen by the customer as an important safety feature, not only for London but for all of their transport operations. Being able to offer the P cab high roof sleeper with factory fitted ‘city windows‘ therefore ticked a lot of boxes. Our electronic parking brake was another key safety feature which, along with full catwalks, meant the trucks met all of the customer’s operational requirements.
From talking to the drivers, who have come from DAF XF cabs, they really love the spacious Scania cabs whilst still having great low down vision.
The relationship with NP has really gone from strength-to-strength, with another 48 ordered for this year.
TONY BIDDLESTONE, ACCOUNT MANAGER, KELTRUCK SCANIA
James Clarke, Head of Haulage at Nationwide Platforms, commented:
There were primarily three key factors behind our decision to move to Scania: proven low total cost of operation, excellent reliability and the P-series cab’s ability to achieve a 3-star Direct Vision Standard (DVS) rating when equipped with Scania’s City Safe window.
Although it is early days, we are already seeing the fuel saving benefits Scania delivers. And when you do need assistance, Scania has an excellent UK service network. This is essential for us as these vehicles will be based around our depots nationwide. The third factor – the P-cab’s 3-star DVS rating – is also especially important as London is a key area of operation for us and a 3-star DVS rating will become mandatory in 2024.
JAMES CLARKE, HEAD OF HAULAGE, NATIONWIDE PLATFORMS LIMITED
The rigids selected by Nationwide Platforms are all P 410 B8x2*2 rear-steers equipped with flat bodies with beaver tails and winches. Going forward, all new trucks will be fitted with Sterling Access Platform bodies. The tractor units are all Scania P 450 A6x2NAs with Highline cabs. These feature factory-fitted catwalks and electronic handbrakes and will be used to haul Nationwide Platform’s fleet of step frame flatbed trailers, which are also equipped with beaver tails and winches.
As the UK’s leading provider of mobile elevated work platforms, Nationwide Platforms has a fleet of 15,000 machines operating out of 38 depots nationwide. In addition to the equipment it provides, the company is also the UK’s largest provider of powered access training, delivering courses to approximately 22,000 delegates and employees every year.
