Smiths Heavy Haulage invests in right-hand drive STGO category 3 tractor unit
Keltruck, the largest independently owned distributor in the Scania worldwide network, has supplied the UK’s first right-hand drive R730 8×4 250-tonnes tractor unit to South Wales-based Smiths Heavy Haulage.
Converted by Laxå Special Vehicles in Sweden, the purchase was made after meetings with Keltruck and Scania (Great Britain) Limited to ensure optimum vehicle specification.
Keltruck has a close working partnership with Smiths Heavy Haulage, both within the sales team and the service department, which makes sure the trucks are maintained to a high standard and downtime is kept to a minimum.
“We are extremely happy with the look and performance of the R730. The purchase and configuration could not have been smoother,” said Simon Griffiths, owner of Smiths Heavy Haulage. “The help and assistance from Keltruck was first class.”
According to Griffiths, the feedback from the driver on its maiden voyage with a 90-tonne excavator was that he was “over the moon”. Griffiths commented, “The driver said that changing up through the gears pulling up a steep hill was like silk!”
“Smiths have been a great customer for Keltruck and are planning to have a full Scania fleet of nine vehicles,” said Peter Harris, Keltruck Account Manager covering the west Wales area. “More recently they have been growing and specialising in the heavy haulage market, and they have now ordered a Next Generation Scania S580 6×2 80t unit and an R500 6×2 unit for a new Fassi 710 crane.”
