A commitment, on World Environment Day, to sustainable transport
As the world celebrates World Environment Day, it’s right to reflect on our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our planet. At Keltruck Limited, the largest independent Scania Distributor in the world serving the Midlands and South Wales, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a core principle ingrained in our business operations for over four decades.
Decades of Dedication to Recycling
For over forty years, Keltruck has been at the forefront of sustainable practices, particularly in the realm of recycling. Our Recycling Department specializes in salvaging parts from end-of-life vehicles, offering them globally at competitive prices. By reusing Scania parts, we not only reduce waste but also provide cost-effective solutions for our customers while contributing to a circular economy.
Embracing Renewable Energy with Scania
In line with our commitment to sustainability, Keltruck embraces renewable energy solutions offered by Scania, particularly Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV). These vehicles represent a significant step towards reducing emissions and mitigating our environmental footprint.
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV): Scania’s BEV trucks offer emission-free driving, making them ideal for short and medium-range journeys. With options ranging from 165kWh to 300kWh, these trucks provide versatility and sustainability without compromising on performance. Additionally, Scania BEV trucks are certified as Quiet-Truck/PIEK-Light, allowing for extended night-time deliveries in noise-restricted areas.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV): Scania’s PHEV trucks offer flexibility and efficiency by seamlessly transitioning between emission-free electric mode and traditional engine mode. This adaptability makes them ideal for urban areas with emission restrictions while ensuring long-range capabilities when needed.
Scania’s Sustainable Transport Strategy
At the heart of Scania’s business strategy lies a commitment to sustainability. By driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system, Scania aims to address key environmental and social challenges while delivering innovative solutions for its customers. This approach is guided by three pillars:
- Energy Efficiency: Scania prioritises energy efficiency in its vehicles through continuous improvement and driver training programs, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
- Renewable Fuels and Electrification: Scania offers a range of renewable fuels and electrified vehicles, including fully electric battery-powered trucks and buses, as well as hybrids. By promoting the use of renewable fuels and electrification, Scania aims to decarbonize transport and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
- Smart and Safe Transport: Through data-driven insights and connectivity solutions, Scania develops smart and safe transport systems that optimize fuel efficiency, improve driver safety, and enhance overall performance.
Choosing Sustainable Fuels with Scania
As part of Scania’s commitment to sustainable transport, the company offers a range of renewable fuel options, including:
- Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO): Derived from animal fats and vegetable oils, HVO offers a fossil-free alternative to standard diesel, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 90%.
- Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME): FAME is a biodiesel derived from animal fats and vegetable oils, offering a 66% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional diesel.
- Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG): Natural gases such as LNG and CNG provide low-emission alternatives to diesel, enabling significant reductions in both emissions and fuel costs.
