Keltruck’s 12-month restoration project of a classic 1999 Scania T-Cab has come to an end with a remarkable conclusion.

The restoration journey for this classic vehicle started back in 2012 when Keltruck Sales Director, David Morgan, saw the potential in this vehicle. The T-cab was purchased in a part exchange deal not only to woo the crowds at upcoming Keltruck events, including the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations, but also to transport the new Keltruck exhibition trailer to events.

Keltruck first displayed the refurbished metallic black T-cab in April 2013 at the grand opening of the newly redeveloped head office in West Bromwich on the occasion of the company’s 30th anniversary.

The T124 has been a 12 month project for the team at Keltruck Scania West Bromwich, undergoing extensive body, chassis and engine work to make sure the vehicle was roadworthy for summer 2013 to be displayed at all the upcoming truck shows across the region.

The project started back in 2012 when David Morgan saw potential in this part exchange vehicle to be the perfect vehicle to transport Keltruck’s exhibition trailer once fully restored.

I personally have always liked the T truck Scania. They are very much an iconic vehicle. Over the years we have supplied such T cab trucks to various customers including George Green Transport, Atchison Topeka, Countrywide Farmers, Coles & Son and Stancombe Stone, to name a few. As time has gone by the value of these trucks has soared and they are becoming very collectable.

At Keltruck we have steadily been growing our own collection of vintage trucks which are all shown on our website and displayed at truck shows in the region. So when I took this particular T truck in part exchange, the decision was made to see what “we Keltruck” could do!  Keltruck’s Bodyshop under the direction of Duncan ‘Dunc’ Catmur stripped it to the bare chassis, engine, gearbox, cab, everything removed and a ground up rebuild was carried out. The chassis paint is as shiny as the cab paint, new parts were sourced to make this T truck one of the best around. The interior has been completely refurbished and our suppliers have rallied round to supply items to finish the vehicle off.

This vehicle came back to Keltruck from the customer in 2012 with a white cab and red chassis. It has since been transformed into a public attraction, refurbished and coordinated in metallic black.

The cab, originally an ‘R’ cab, has been replaced and fitted with a Topline roof, the bonnet repaired, damaged air deflectors replaced and all refurbished in metallic black at Keltruck’s own state-of-the-art, on site Dalby ‘cook & bake’ paintshop.

The chassis arrived in poor condition with most parts damaged. However the team in Keltruck’s accident repair centre have the expertise and also Josam jig equipment necessary to complete the refurbishment. The chassis was stripped down to the rails, shot blasted and rebuilt, replacing all damaged parts and painted gloss black.

The finished product is testament to what our bodyshop boys can achieve. All who took part in the rebuild really took it to heart and had real pride in turning the vehicle into what it is today. Thanks must also go to Chris Hopton at Tyretrax, Matt & Luke at S&B Components and Spot on Bars.

Incidentally, we also have a 1989 T143 and a 2005 T124 so it’s now a really unique collection of classic Scania T-cabs.

Extra fittings include new allow wheels and tyres, S&B Components parts in metallic black, new type headlamps, double rear lights and light bars around the vehicle. Even the engine and gearbox were painted to match.

Finishing touches include tinted cab windows, fitted special green on green tint windscreen, recovered seats and bunks in leather, recovered interior panels in black, colour coded mirrors and light bar and all steps black stove enameled.
